Wow Akhil - this is powerful. I had not seen this NASA GISS map before.

Please correct me if I misunderstood. I hope I did. The graphic (Annual J-D 2016) shows the average temperature around the world in 2016 minus the average temperature in the same regions between 1900 and 1930.

Europe (epecially Northern and Central Europe) Canada, Alaska, Siberia, Northern and Far Eastern Russia, and the Stans (Kazakhstan, Turkmenistan, Kyrgyzstan, Afganistan) are already up by more than 2 degrees C. Also a big chunk of Brazil and North Africa.

The Artic Circle and Nothern Greenland are already above 4 degrees.

Speaking as SymSoil, it always comes back to food security. A 2 degree increase corresponds to a 15% drop in agricultural production. Full stop.

Annual J-D 2016 explains the recent news or record high temperatures at both poles. Since they are opposing seasons, this has never been seen before.
